Abstract

Pilot-controller voice communication is the essential process of every flight before the complete implementation of Controller-Pilot Data link Communication. Past literature revealed that oral miscommunication was one of the primary causes leading to many significant aircraft accidents. A total of 138 radiotelephony transmission transcripts were deeply analyzed and treated by Speech Move method to identify causal factors of oral miscommunication. The analysis results found 5 types of recurrent linguistic errors. They were respectively readback error, hearback error, instruction error, operation error and call sign confusion. The findings suggested more endeavors be made on educational training, CPDLC implementation and management improvement, used as a reference to reduce oral communication failures for either practical applications or further academic research.
