ABSTRACT

The beauty of Chinese literature and poetry has been passed down for hundreds of years. Chinese people started to know some Chinese classic texts such as Three Character classic and Three Hundred Tang Poems since their childhood. There is a large number of great works deeply influenced Chinese people’s mind. In this study, we wanted to investigate more about the Seven quatrains. The purpose of this study is to understand whether different level of the recombination and switch of the characters would affect verbal response time length and verbal correctness. The results show that a higher-complexity recombination of characters takes participants longer time to give reaction. We assumed that there are two reasons to this result. The first reason should be that people born in this environment are familiar with the original way of those Chinese literates or poems. That is why those participants cannot get used to the new form of character combination. When the order of characters changed, participants required more attentions to control our previous reading habits. Secondly, the reaction time and the correct rate of answering the questions would vary according to how the characters recombine.
